Moms Night In at the Covenant House Mother & Child Shelter

We have started a charitable movement called Mom’s Night In, which is an event dedicated to reward the hard work of the Mothers living at the Covenant House. Every other month, we ask the Administrators at the Covenant House to nominate those Moms that have shown exemplary efforts re their children, work life, and/or mental health.   The community room on the first floor of the shelter is converted into a dining room with childcare included. Our guests at dinner (approximately 8-10 women) earn a spot at the table based on their achievements and  accomplishments - rewarded by the Covenant House staff working directly with them.   The meal will be cooked or purchased by 2-3 volunteer families who will serve and clean up the meal. While the Moms are enjoying dinner, we (kids ages 13+) will also babysit and entertain the children of our guests by providing fun activities for them to enjoy.   The reason for our interest in starting this event is because our family has supported the Covenant House in many ways over the years, through serving Thanksgiving dinners, attending annual sleep outs, and donations. We also wanted to recognize the hardworking female figures who are struggling with being homeless and having to support their children as single moms.
